The make-believe world of popular online computer game "World of Warcraft" (WoW) is reeling from a massive simulated plague which has left countless thousands of imaginary characters lying dead in the computer-generated virtual streets. Panic has set in among hundreds of thousands of real human beings who in recent days were stunned to find the animated graphic of their character replaced by an animated graphic of a dead character.
Frantic efforts are underway to make their respective computer screens display the live one again.
Dwarf warrior Torin Gut-Ripper, whom we were able to trace to the bedroom of 15-year-old Billy Cheatham of 1537 Fair Oak Street in Ames, Iowa, agrees. "MY BAND OF PILLAGERS HAS BEEN DECMATED![sic]" he said in all capital letters. "THIS PLAUGE[sic] SUCKS!" Moments later, Gut-Ripper collapsed, virtual blood streaming out of his delicate, 3D-modeled lips.
Gut-Ripper's mighty band has been reduced to three. Not shown: pillaging
Avid WoW player Ray Nagin says conditions in the virtual cities have become dire. "Order has completely broken down. Armed bands are roaming the streets, killing and looting. Which is normal, but there's this disease, too."
Nagin blames FECA, the FeArEd eLiTe CoMp Adm1nz, responsible for maintaining the computers on which the game runs, for failing to respond to the emergency quickly. "They need to put down their Mountain Dews and get off their asses!" he said. A FECA spokesperson, reached by email, had this response to Nagin: "STFU n00b! mT dEw R0X!" A News Skim staffer fluent in computer jargon explained that FECA's response was a denial of Nagin's ass-sitting charges but a partial admission of Mountain Dew drinkage.
FECA's response has not satisfied Nagin. Bundled up but still shivering from the cold simulated weather where his WoW character is stranded, he stood on a sweltering Louisiana street corner, waving placards, handing out flyers and trying to get passing shoppers to join in his chant of "No blood for Dew!" "I couldn't just sit around, I had to do something." He explained. "Where are you, Mr. President?"
President Bush issued a statement that "everything in our power is being done to help the citizens of the great city of Warden Warfraft" The President then signed a $100 billion aid package into law and demanded to be flown over the afflicted area in Air Force One. The aircraft reportedly circled aimlessly over the east coast for several hours before returning to Washington.
