Yeah, so while stuck trying to defeat Jerec, I decided to install Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast. As of now, I am on Artus Prime, fooling around in a mining facility. My initial impression of the game is "this looks familiar." Makes sense, since Raven Software also made Jedi Academy.
However, it is pretty different. Getting to play as an older Kyle Katarn is cool; getting to play as Kyle Katarn who acts like a baby when even the word "lightsaber" is mentioned ("Spast!" he says in one cutscene when realizing the crystal in his hand is similar to the ones in lightsabers) is not so. Kyle seems to have lost all connection to the Force, and I find that in the eight years since Dark Forces 2, the Stormtroopers have received some better training in dodging laser fire. Oh well. I'll get that lightsaber eventually.
It looks like fun. Reviews I read said that you can't pick your Force alignment or your powers, but I think that is a good thing. It takes the pressure off your back of doing either "good" or "bad" things in the game. Plus, you get to use dark side powers without the creaky Jedi inhibitions. I am fucking Kyle Katarn for pete's sake. I don't follow no Jedi Code or New Republic ideals. I'm a mercenary, and I goes where the money takes me.
So far 2.5 stars out of 4; should go up once I get the lightsaber and the Force.

Hey hey hey. This is the Jedi Knight I know and love. Bespin is such a wonderful level because I get to fight Reborn! And all of them carry only one lightsaber. They are no match for me, and I have all these force powers, light and dark. There was even a duel in the carbonite chamber like in Episode 5! This game is sooo much better than the original, and it even make JA look like a flimsy sequal.

Defeating Tavion was fun. I dueled her atop some storage crates, and when she forced-jumped, I pushed her all the way down to the lower level. The cutscene was awesome. Fighting alongside Luke Skywalker against a regiment of stormtroopers and Reborn was astounding. I think Jedi Outcast is video-game gold. A game this good will hardly ever be duplicated. Excuse me while I go have a religious seizure.
(why did I not buy this game four years ago???)

Yeah. In retrospect, that level wasn't so hot. I am on the Doomgiver now. Poor Luke had it handed it to him by Desann. Wait until I get my saber close to his reptilian head...

Well well well. I defeat that overgrown Kowakian monkey-lizard Desann and saved the galaxy. Ironically enough, this means I have beaten Jedi Outcast before beating the original Jedi Knight (still trying to stop those statues while dueling Jerec...).
